How Can European Potatoes Remain Competitive?

Bianca de Winter, Seed Potato Grower, The Netherlands
Bianca de Winter, after completing her Bachelor's degree in Horticulture and Arable Farming in Dronten, worked for several years at Agrico in Emmeloord as a logistics planner for table potatoes. She has now been working for seven years on her family farm in the northern part of Groningen. The farm mainly grows seed potatoes. In addition, the crop rotation includes onions, sugar beets, rutabaga, and grains.
Francisco Moya, Managing Director, Vitalis Group, France
Francisco Moya was born in 1964. With a Spanish origin, Francisco has lived and worked in France his entire life. He is currently the Managing Director of Vitalis Network, which was founded in 2017 and which he helped to create, and Vitexport. Within Vitalis, Francisco is responsible for internal and external communications, and co-leads the retail division. As a member of the Vitalis Strategy Committee, he also co-leads the Group's external growth and overall strategic thinking.
As well as his professional commitment to the economic development of the companies in the Vitalis Group, he was also involved from a very early stage in professional associations and organisations in the potato sector. Currently, he’s involved in FEDEPOM and the French interbranch CNIPT, and is an active member of EUROPATAT as well. At regional level, in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region, he has been in charge of public relations for the potato promotion association.
In the past years, Francisco has also plaid an important role in the development of the Princesse Amandine collective brand as Chairman of the Export Working Group and Co-Chairman of the Iberian Association. He is also a member of the board of the brand management association.
As recognition for his dedication to the potato sector, he was made a Knight of the French Order of Agricultural Merit in 2024.
Christophe Vermeulen, CEO, Belgapom, Belgium
Christophe Vermeulen is a Belgian lawyer, specialized in constitutional, international and European law (UGent). Since 2021 he has been Director of FVPHouse and CEO of Belgapom, the Belgian Federation for the Potato Processing Industry and Trade. Previously he had a 15 year career in politics as, respectively, advisor in the Belgian Federal Parliament, coordinator of the Young Christian Democrats (JONGCD&V), Attaché for Eastern Europe in the Belgian Foreign Affairs Service, Advisor Government-owned companies for Minister Inge Vervotte, Advisor in the Flemish Parliament and APA and team leader for the CD&V in the European Parliament. He lives in Gent, loves sports, books, comedy, history, the seaside, and drinks and laughs with good friends.

Erika den Daas, Managing Director, Meijer Potato, The Netherlands
Erika den Daas joined Meijer Potato as Managing Director in 2017. With 35 years of experience in the crop input side of agribusiness both within multinational companies and medium-sized companies, Erika started her career in fertilizers (Everis and BASF), followed by crop protection (Syngenta and Certis Europe), service provider in seed enhancement Incotec, and now in potato breeding, at the base of crop produce itself. Leading theme in her career is about how to embrace challenges and translate them into opportunities. How can we produce more with less input in more sustainable manner, whilst meeting market demands.
Soundararadjane S., Chief Executive Officer, HyFarm, India
With over three decades of leadership across the Asia-Pacific, Soundararadjane S. is reshaping the future of Indian agriculture — combining strategic vision with a deep, on-the-ground understanding of smallholder realities.
As the driving force behind HyFarm at HyFun Foods, he is leading an ambitious mission: to scale the smallholder network from 7,000 to 30,000 farmers and deliver 1 million metric tonnes of climate-resilient, processing-grade potatoes by 2028.
His model is grounded in impact and innovation — fusing regenerative agriculture, digital enablement, and science-led practices to build a farmer-centric, globally competitive Agri-ecosystem. Kristof Wallays, Chief Global Expansion, Innovation and Sustainability, Agristo NV, Belgium
Kristof Wallays completed his studies as a bio-engineer in 2003. Kristof’s father, Antoon Wallays, was one of the co-founders of Agristo.
Kristof joined Agristo in 2003 when the company completed the acquisition of a production facility for frozen potato products in Tilburg, the Netherlands. For 8 years Kristof was plant manager of this production facility. In this role he managed to upgrade, modernize and expand the production lines in Tilburg, making it into an innovative production facility. In 2011 Agristo acquired a production facility in Nazareth which was led by Kristof until 2016, when he became operations manager for the Group.
In 2018, Kristof became COO of the Agristo group. After 7 years as COO Kristof moved on and is now Chief Global Expansion, Innovation & Sustainability. In this role Kristof lays out strategic directions for the international expansion of Agristo and follows evolutions in the global potato processing industry from close-by.
